WA Opera Incursion
WA Opera came to St Matthew’s today to present a concert to our students. With the current Covid restrictions, we were unfortunately only able to offer the live performance to our Year 3, 4 and 5 students; however, we were lucky enough to be able to live stream the performance into the classrooms of our junior classes.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday, marks the first day of the Church’s Season of Lent. During this time, Christians around the world pray, fast, and give alms as they reflect on Jesus’ death and resurrection. On Wednesday 2 March, Fr Geoff, who is filling in for Fr Jay while he is on Long Service Leave, visited classes and distributed ashes, a sign of our humility.
Year 1 Technology Titans
This year, St Matthew’s has introduced specialist Digital Technology classes for Pre-Primary to Year 6. Our students are learning that digital systems are everywhere, and how mobile and desktop devices and networks are transforming learning, recreational activities, home life and work. This week our Year 1’s used craft materials to build a model of a digital device to help develop a clearer understanding of the difference between hardware and software. Amazing!
2022 Sunsmart Schools’ Tennis Classic – South West Academy Plate
On Wednesday, March 9, 20 selected students from Years 5 and 6 walked to the Narrogin tennis courts to participate in the SunSmart, Upper Great Southern Academy Plate. This is an annual Interschool competition, run by Tennis West, to provide budding tennis players with real game practise to improve their skills.
The selected students from St Matthew’s played some incredible tennis and certainly improved throughout the day. Their tennis etiquette and sportsmanship was also spot on and they should all be very proud of themselves.Team B finished on top of their pool, but unfortunately lost in the semifinal.
It was fabulous for the students to have this opportunity, considering all the tighter Covid restrictions we are encountering in WA.
2022 Project Compassion
Students in Year 2-6 have brought home small collection boxes to fill, and then combine into their class boxes at the end of the term. The funds raised by Catholic schools all across Australia directly impact the lives of those in our world in dire need.
Please give generously “for all future generations”.
