School Vision

St Matthew’s School empowers children to embrace life-long learning and grow and develop as God intends.

Dear Parents and Carers

Staff Professional Development

Staff at St Matthews continue on their path as life-long learners. On Friday, they participated in professional development facilitated by Sharon Davis, a Consultant from Catholic Education WA, on ‘Culturally Responsive Pedagogy.’ Culturally responsive pedagogy is a student-centred approach to teaching,  in which the students’ unique cultural strengths are identified and nurtured, to promote student achievement and a sense of well-being about the student’s cultural place in the world.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

Next week many of our students will participate in the Interschool Athletics Carnival with Jumps and Throws scheduled for Wednesday 6 November and the carnival day scheduled for Friday 8 November. Please come along and cheer on our team at Thomas Hogg Oval commencing at  9.30am.

Quiz Night

The organizing committee have been very busy over the last few weeks preparing for the Quiz Night, which will take place next Saturday 9 November in the school hall. All tables have now been sold. With a licensed bar, those attending are encouraged to bring along a plate of nibbles to share on their table. The theme for the Quiz Night is ‘Music through the Ages’ and those attending are encouraged to dress up according to the theme.

If you are not returning to St Matthew’s in 2020, can you please email this information to: admin@matthews.wa.edu.au Please note, it is not a requirement for advice regarding the current year six students. Your attention to this matter, at your earliest convenience, will be appreciated.

Reporting

At this time of the school year, teachers are gathering evidence for semester reports. Teachers use a variety of methods, tools and resources when allocating grades and forming judgments about your child’s progress. The teacher will begin with student needs, looking at what they already know and what they need to know. They will then design learning opportunities and assessment strategies to monitor progress. The teacher will implement learning and teaching opportunities in the classroom and gather information during the term. Once the information has been gathered, the teacher will make a professional judgment after interpreting and analysing the information and will determine your child’s academic achievement in the upcoming report. Semester Two reports will be available electronically to parents via Seqta Coneqt on Tuesday 10th December. Please inform the office if you have updated your email address since receiving your child’s Semester One report.

Annual General Community Meeting 2019

Our Annual Community Meeting takes place at 6.30pm on Tuesday 26 November in the school library. At this meeting our P&F and School Board will present their reports and staffing for the 2020 school year will be announced. The School Board meets each month and their main tasks are overseeing the financial management, capital  development and maintenance of our school. The P&F also meets each month and their tasks include fundraising, organisation of social events and a forum for discussion. There is no general business discussed at the AGM meetings and hospitality is provided after the meeting. Involvement in either the School Board or P & F is a wonderful way in which parents can actively contribute to the school as both groups focus on providing the very best for our students.

Prayer Services

Students in Pre-primary have their prayer service this Tuesday 5 November at 9am in the Pre-primary classroom and the students in Year 3 & 4 will have a Mass in the Church on Thursday 7 November commencing at 9.30am. Please join us to support your children.

P & F Meeting

There will be a P & F meeting this Monday 4 November at 6pm in the Meeting Room. All parents are welcome to attend.

May God bless your week
