St Matthew’s School Narrogin

Africa Week

A big thank you to Erick Memba, Anette De Waal and Hildah Nyemba who visited us to help us learn more about the many cultures of Africa. Thanks to the generosity of these families, we learnt so much about the animals, ceremonies, dress, hair, music and celebrations of Africa.

Interschool Athletic Carnivals

A fantastic display of speed, skill and sportsmanship was on display for the Narrogin District Interschool carnival on Tuesday and Friday of Week 9.

St Matthew’s School was represented by a team of 61 athletes who left everything on the track and came away with 1st overall and 2nd in the handicap. I am very proud to announce that, according to our records, this was St Matthew’s first outright win since 2013. There were many ribbons won for individual events but most of the points that St Matthew’s scored were from their exceptional team games and relays, a true testimony to their ability to work together.

Special thanks to Mrs Evelyn Wilkie and East Narrogin for the coordination of such a successful day.

Congratulations to the following individuals who were awarded medallions on the day:

Josh Sewell, Elliot Campbell, Myla Shaddick, Oscar Hardie, Mia Mercuri, Iyana Bustamante, Chelsea Richards, Chelsea Richards, Uzoma Ezeorakwe,, Evan Hardie, and Matthew George.

Congratulations to all of our students who competed and a huge thank you to all of our parents who volunteered – without you, these special days would not be possible.

More information and photos of this event will be shared in next term’s first newsletter.

Great Southern Network STEM Showcase

Students in Years 3 and 4 participated in the Catholic Education WA (CEWA) Great Southern Network Stem Showcase on Thursday 14th of September at St Patrick’s School, Katanning. The event aims to promote learning in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Students in Years 3 and 4 from Catholic Primary Schools across the Southwest presented their knowledge and learning through interactive and engaging displays and presentations. We are very proud of all of our students.

Each year, outstanding entries in each section are acknowledged. We are proud to announce the following winners:

  • Our Sustainable School completed by Gianni, Lloyd and Lincoln (Yr 4) – Inspired by Nature Catergory
  • Finding a home Upcycling  completed by Mackenzie, Mia, Oscar and Mercy (Yr 4) – Social Entrepreneurship Category

Congratulations to all of our participants and thank you to Mrs Dyke and Miss Sutton for helping our students to create their amazing designs.

STEM MAD National

Mackenzie, Mia, Oscar and Mercy were also successful in securing an opportunity to be part of STEM MAD National. This is a celebration of excellence in Catholic education, in which the nation’s best primary, secondary and ‘Future is STEM’ student teams, nominated by their dioceses, showcase their projects to conference participants, diocesan representatives, sponsors and affiliated organisations, school communities and their fellow students. The STEM MAD National Advisory Committee – a Committee made up of representatives from each participating state – share the curating and judging of the projects against the criteria and make the final decision on which projects receive the awards and are invited to attend STEM MAD National showcase in Melbourne. Very exciting!

Celebrating Dads P&F Breakfast

Our amazing P&F mums got up bright and early on Friday September 8 to help us all celebrate Fathers’ Day. They made delicious crossiants and yoghurt pots to feed many eager mouths. This year we were joined by representatives from Regional Men’s Health and all of our father-figures received showbags to help our men stay healthy The staff were thrilled by the excellent turnout and we would love to thank the P&F for helping us acknowledge the wonderful men in our students’ lives.

Year 1 & 2 Prayer Service

On Thursday, 7 September, a lovely group of mums and dads joined us for the Year 1 and 2 Prayer Service. Our beautiful families came together in prayer and completed beautiful art pieces to reflect on the theme of growth.
