St Matthew’s School Narrogin

Bilya Kaatijin Incursion

All of our students from Kindy to Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed journeying through global Dreaming stories and discovering the importance of accepting others, the power of empathy and the impact of climate change to the land and the Noongar seasons. A huge thank you to the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company.

‘Our Story’ Whole School Art Project

What an amazing turnout! The family pickets will be combined to create a “fence” that depicts the many and varied backgrounds of our school community. We hope that through the creation of this piece, families were able to talk about their cultural heritage and in doing so, help their children to appreciate the importance of their story.  It is through sharing our stories that we come together as a community. The artwork will be installed along the side of the Sr Isabel Hall.

Sharing Noongar Culture

On Thursday, we combined our classes so that children could visit many different groups:

  • dollmaking with guest speaker Raelene Kickett
  • sand yarning & Aboriginal storytelling through symbol
  • bush tucker garden
  • mia mia
  • changes to the National Anthem
  • Aboriginal spirituality
  • Noongar culture with guest speakers Ross Storey and Lucas Kickett
  • “How Yongka Got It’s Colour” story
